This activity draws upon the conductivity of Play-Doh to create and understand simple circuits. Because of its binary form of success and emphasis on troubleshooting, it is strongly recommended to incorporate making squishy circuits into a design challenge and/or to emphasize the scientific inquiry elements of understanding and experimenting with conductivity. In past activities, learners were tasked with creating a reading lamp or similar device for their client, Steve Bear. This activity uses Play-Doh, batteries, and recycled/found common household materials, and lasts for an hour-long class period.
