STOMP: Who We Are
“KIDS CAN!”
Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) Motto
STOMP partners pairs of Tufts University students with public school teachers in the greater Boston area to create and implement engineering curricula in the teachers’ classrooms. The Tufts students collaborate with teachers to bring new technologies and innovative activities to the classroom, working to meet the Science, Technology and Engineering component of the Massachusetts Frameworks in creative and engaging ways. STOMP is run, hosted, and funded through the Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO).

What are STOMP Notebooks?
“I was thrilled about how our notebooks went this year. Students could use them to communicate in all sorts of ways that we didn’t have before. They could use their notebooks to talk about designs they did in the past, ask us questions, write procedures, and comment on our feedback.”
Liz Moison, 4th year STOMPer and CEEO undergraduate researcher
So what are engineering notebooks for STOMPers, and why do we think that they’re awesome enough to make a whole website about them? Engineering notebooks are, first and foremost, a teaching tool for STOMPers to leverage in the classroom for a variety of goals. Every student in our classrooms has an engineering notebook to document work, answer reflection questions on their designs, plan project presentations, and a whole host of other possibilities. Check out the “For the Classroom” page to see some of our ideas!

About This Site
“These notebooks are meant to be a learning and teaching tool that are in development, and as more and more STOMPers begin to implement them in the classroom, their use will grow and improve.”
Leah Sugrue, 2nd year STOMPer
This website is intended to be used by more than just STOMPers (though we hope that STOMPers use this as a resource too!). Anyone interested in engineering education, especially at an elementary and middle school level, can use this website to find tools to implement in the classroom. In addition, we have a page – For Outreach Training – that includes resources for teachers, STOMPers, and other educators to use to practice using notebooks and develop innovative teaching practices.
The final two pages – Conjectures and Remaining Questions – are an always-evolving set of thoughts and questions that we develop as we learn more about using notebooks in the classroom for STOMPers. We firmly believe in sharing knowledge, generating communal understandings of problems, and always looking for new questions to ask. Please comment and contribute to our growing conversation!
