Create profiles of engineers pasted in notebooks! Define what kind of engineering the profiled person does, what their story is, and what (if anything) it might have to do with that day’s activity. Connections between role model engineers and relevant content can be helpful and exciting. Role models should be selected with attention to representation of diverse minorities in engineering. The role models can be professional scientists/engineers from history or contemporary times, or can be facilitators in the outreach program. For role models who are outreach facilitators (or otherwise connected to the outreach program, like university faculty), provide a personal profile, and/or information (like a letter) about when [the role model] was the same age as the outreach participants. Considering role models can occur in reflection in notebooks or verbally as well, especially after exposure to some of the aforementioned interventions: What makes a good engineer? Who would be a good engineer for you to look up to?
