Working in pairs (co-teaching pairs if the outreach ambassador program uses co-teaching), training participants take on an engineering design challenge similar to one they might facilitate with a class. Encourage training participants to be reflective of their engineering and teamwork practices as they design, both to identify characteristics of participation in engineering activities and to build empathy with learners to draw from when facilitating engineering activities.
It’s recommended to use an activity that involves some technology here to develop outreach ambassadors’ familiarity with it (such as building a squishy circuit lamp for Prof. Steve Bear).

After the activity, debrief in small (4-6 recommended) groups:
What is engineering design? How did you work equitably in pairs?
Share take-aways from small group discussion in the large group, and record the discussion in a shared document to build common knowledge.
