Egg Drop Experts

Divide the class into two sections. Half of the class builds the parachute part of an egg drop in pairs, and the other half builds the egg capsule in pairs. Have students make a procedure for their design, and then within their half, give each other feedback. There should be a facilitator at each of these large groups. On the second day, have student pairs swap their procedures and plan with a pair from the other group. Students then build the whole egg drop (both parachute and capsule) using their part that got feedback, and the procedure from the other group. Students can choose to use the complete procedure from the other group, or choose aspects that they agree with. Quantitative testing: time of decent (the longer the better), condition of egg. Change testing criteria by changing the height it’s dropped from, and the thing they’re dropping (egg, Pringles chip, teacher’s phone)
